The Photonics Devices Group operates in the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering (DEIB) of Politecnico di Milano since 1996. Our prime competences are in passive and nonlinear integrated optical circuits, from electromagnetic analysis to circuit design, from waveguides characterization to devices testing, from devices for high bit rates optical communication systems to sensors. We have a world leading expertise ranging from silica-on-silicon technology, high index contrast silicon oxynitride (SiON), silicon nitride (SiN), silicon on insulator (SOI), chalcogenide and, more recently, Indium Phosphide. The Labs include 5 polarization controlled setups for characterization of waveguides and components in both frequency (attenuation, insertion loss, birefringence, group delay, near field, backscatter…) and time domain.
